Narva is located in north-east Estonia and is the country’s third largest city with the population of 54 000. The town on the border of the European Union and Russia is known for its bastions, its castle and the river promenade that has become the heart of the city. Narva has historically been the meeting point of the East and the West, where different nations and cultures have mingled over the centuries. Through times the town has been ruled over by Danes, Germans, Swedes, Russians and Estonians. Traditional industries of Narva are textile and sewing industry, and metal and timber industries. Retail and service industries have developed more recently.
