Brandenburg, with its state capital Potsdam, constitutes an important metropolitan area and conurbation together with Berlin. At the same time, the sparsely populated, agricultural regions of Brandenburg provide a contrast to the metropolis. The State represents the interests of its 2.5 million citizens in the EU inter alia through the Committee of the Regions and through its four Members of the European Parliament.
