Västernorrland County covers the province of Medelpad, a large part of Ångermanland and smaller parts of Hälsingland and Jämtland. The largest towns and cities in the region are Sundsvall, Örnsköldsvik, Härnösand, Sollefteå and Kramfors. Mid-Sweden University in Sundsvall brings together innovative entrepreneurs from all over the region. Geographically speaking, the coastal areas are the county’s economic powerhouse, thanks to the region’s long-established timber industry. Sweden’s High Coast region is a UNESCO World Heritage site thanks to its very special geology – the result of uplift dating right back to the end of the ice age.
