Västernorrland County covers the province of Medelpad, a large part of Ångermanland and smaller parts of Hälsingland and Jämtland. The largest towns and cities in the region are Sundsvall, Örnsköldsvik, Härnösand, Sollefteå and Kramfors. Geographically speaking, the coastal areas are the county’s economic powerhouse, thanks to the region’s long-established timber industry.
