Bratislava Region is located on the south-western edge of the country, adjacent to Austria and Hungary. It is intersected, from the southwest to the northeast, by the Little Carpathians, which separate the Záhorská Lowland to the north from the Danubian Lowland to the south. The mighty Danube River and the lower reaches of the Morava River both form the national border with Austria. Grapevines are traditionally cultivated on the eastern slopes of the Little Carpathians, and after Nitra Region, Bratislava Region is the largest wine producer in Slovakia. Bratislava has the highest concentration of universities in Slovakia.
