Örebro County covers the province of Närke, the western part of Västmanland, the south-eastern part of Värmland and small areas of other neighbouring provinces. Demographically speaking, the centre of Sweden is located in the south-eastern part of Örebro county: more than two thirds of Sweden’s population live within a 300-km radius of Örebro.
Examples of projects and initiatives supported by the EU
Arena for all, getting closer to employment
‘Arena för alla’, a project run by Karlskoga adult education centre, is designed to help facilitate access to employment for new arrivals who are finding it difficult to find jobs. The aim is to achieve this by providing training for the target group and partners, as well as organising dialogue meetings with the target group and partners, and on-the-job activities for participants.
Work with the climate transition in Multiply
The Multiply project, which has received funding from the EU’s Horizon 2020 programme, aims to get municipalities to play a more active role in combating climate change in the areas of planning and redeveloping neighbourhoods, land use, identifying the most effective energy solutions, moving people and goods, and finding ways of involving local people in the process.
Study tracks for young adults
‘Studiespåret’ is a collaborative project run by the municipalities of Karlskoga and Degerfors to help reduce unemployment among young people aged between 16 and 24. The aim is to offer study-oriented activities to increase the number of young people who complete their upper-secondary studies. The project will focus in particular on young newcomers and look for ways to reduce gender-segregated choices with regard to education and training.
Project 3TR - development of medical treatment methods
3TR, a project run by Örebro University, is part of the Innovative Medicines Initiative, an EU-funded research programme. 3TR brings together researchers from 15 countries to look at 7 common diseases. The aim is to find treatments that are tailored to individual patients and are thus more effective. Among other things, the researchers will be looking at the molecules within cells to find the causes of the diseases.
