Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes is one of the largest and most populous regions in Europe with over eight million inhabitants living in its 12 departments and the Metropolis of Lyon. It stretches from the Massif Central to the Alps and is home to mountainous areas, plains, including the Rhône Valley, and many lakes. The region is located at a crossroads of major traffic arteries and has a booming economy, largely due to significant investment in research and development.
