Örebro is located halfway between Stockholm and Gothenburg on the western shore of Hjälmaren, one of Sweden’s largest lakes. Örebro, Sweden’s sixthlargest municipality, is the capital of Örebro County. The city is over 700 years old and its castle dates back to the 1200s. Previously famed for its footwear industry, Örebro is now a city whose economy is focused on logistics, commerce, manufacturing and food. In addition to Wadköping, an open-air cultural heritage museum in the city’s park, Örebro boasts a host of other museums, as well as a university, which was founded in 1977.

AM LIFT - development of 3D printing

It is thought that, as a technology, 3D printing will be able to transform industry and, in the long term, make manufacturing and products more sustainable from an energy and environmental perspective. The Alfred Nobel Science Park is spearheading AM LIFT, a project which provides test environments and is designed to help more manufacturing companies start using 3D printing technology.

Fossil free 2030 - sustainable options for travel

‘Fossilfritt 2030 – Rena resan’ is a project designed to help people living in the Örebro region reduce the impact that travel has on the climate. The aim is to help people change their behaviour and learn more about sustainable travel options. The area around the fish market in Örebro is to be redeveloped to provide space for art, leisure and sustainable transport.

E-resurs 2.0 - self-sufficiency through entrepreneurship

The municipality of Örebro is promoting E-resurs 2.0, a project geared towards establishing entrepreneurship as a way of helping people who aren’t in the labour market achieve self-sufficiency. The project aims to reduce exclusion and increase employment within the target group by using entrepreneurship as a tool.

AI.ALL - research in artificial intelligence and autonomous systems

Örebro University is spearheading the AI.ALL project, the aim of which is to foster R&D cooperation on the use of artificial intelligence and autonomous systems in a number of areas including health, sustainability and smart industry. This research is being conducted in conjunction with industry with the aim of meeting the need for new solutions in robotics and AI. The project also provides a forum to bring researchers, technology developers and businesses together.
