Agriculture, especially fruit and vegetable production, is the economic mainstay of the province, bolstered in particular by the widespread presence of cooperatives. Poultry farming also plays an important role. Industrial activities such as fruit and vegetable processing, food canning and animal slaughtering and meat processing are linked to this primary sector. The footwear and furniture sectors also figure prominently.
Examples of projects and initiatives supported by the EU
AgroFoodChain Project
The AgroFoodChain project is being 50% co-financed by the EU. The project aims to increase the level of industrialisation and automation of the food supply chain. AgroFoodChain has created an IT platform which has integrated all the operational systems used in the agri-food chain, ensuring the speedy and efficient exchange of data.
REVIVAL Project
The REVIVAL project derives 85 % of its funding from the EU and aims to reclaim and put to new use the abandoned 20th century sites and buildings that are part of Forlì’s cultural heritage. The EU has funded the creation of an online catalogue and a series of audio-visual files to promote tourism in the Forlì area by telling the stories behind its landmarks and providing information on their architectural features.
Vias Animae – The rediscovered roads
The EU has co-financed the Vias Animae project, which aims to improve services for visitors to Foreste Casentinesi, Monte Falterona e Campigna National Park, by improving the infrastructure there and making it more appealing to walkers and cyclists.
Traning course for technician for the design and manufacture of products in the footwear industry
The European Social Fund has co-financed a course run in San Mauro Pascoli (Province of Forlì-Cesena) by Cercal, a shoemaking academy. The course, entitled ‘Technician in the design and production of footwear products’ sees trainees work together with companies in designing and producing prototypes of footwear and of related components and accessories.
Blue Technology - Innovamare Project
The European Union is co-financing the Innovamare project, providing 85 % of its funding. Innovamare aims to support the blue economy in the Cesenatico area. The project’s goal is to identify innovative solutions for the prevention, reduction, mitigation and removal of marine pollution in the Adriatic Sea.
