Taking into account its maritime territory, Split-Dalmatia County is the largest in Croatia. In terms of population size, it is smaller only than the City of Zagreb. The county consists of three geographical divisions: the hinterland, the coast and the islands. One major source of income for the county is tourism, placing an added strain on the inadequately developed municipal infrastructure. In recent years, companies have mainly opened in the transport, tourism, construction and IT sectors.
