Natura 2000 is an EU-wide network of conservation areas, which was created to provide cross-border protection for wild flora and fauna and their habitats. One such conservation area is in the lower Amper Valley below Grafrath, characterised by marshlands, alluvial forests and oxbow lakes. In this area, protection is afforded for not only beavers but also rare fish that can only be found in the Danube and its tributaries, such as the pigo and the Danube salmon, which are endangered and critically endangered respectively.

A number of local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), for example the Türkenfeld roofing company, are receiving support from the European Social Fund to create apprenticeships to help young people to secure long-term employment.

EU funding is being channelled into the Fürstenfeldbruck job centre, which is seeking to reduce long-term unemployment by helping those concerned to regain a foothold on the labour market. Efforts are being made to find employers for the long-term jobless, remedy skills shortages and provide intensive post-recruitment assistance to participants, enabling them to secure lasting employment.

The European Social Fund support is ¸being provided for the teaching of German to 13-16 year-olds at the Wittelsbacher lower secondary school in Germering.
