Situated in the heart of Transylvania, Bistrița-Năsăud is a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic county. Agriculture and forestry, industry (particularly metallurgy, car manufacturing, electrotechnology, etc.), construction, trade and hospitality and catering are the county’s main economic activities. The county has much to attract tourists, including hiking trails, glacial lakes, caverns and, in particular, the biosphere reserve in the Rodna Mountains National Park, the curative waters of the Sângeorz-Băi spa resort and Lake Colibița.
