The Rhine-Lahn district, with its historic old towns and mediaeval castles, is part of a UNESCO World Heritage site: the Upper Middle Rhine Valley. Marksburg Castle near Braubach, the only hillside castle on the Rhine to have been preserved intact, and the famous Loreley rock are two of the landmarks in this district in the north of Rhineland-Palatinate, where tourism plays a key role. Industry, by contrast, carries less weight within the regional economy. One third of the district’s jobs are provided by its craft firms, which employ more than 7 500 people.

Examples of projects and initiatives supported by the EU

JUWEL 2021

Über mehrere Jahre wurde das Projekt JUWEL aus dem Europäischen Sozialfonds gefördert. Es zielt darauf ab Jugendliche und junge Alleinerziehende in den Landkreisen Rhein-Lahn und Westerwald intensiv bei der Suche nach Arbeit und Ausbildungsstätte zu unterstützen und Hilfe bei administrativen Vorgängen zu bieten. 

Hiking trail Küppeltour

Als LEADER-Projekt wurde die Schaffung und Zertifizierung des Rundwanderwegs „Küppeltour“ unterstützt. Die circa 16 Kilometer lange Strecke verläuft von Balduinstein über Cramberg, Steinsberg, Wasenbach und die Schaumburg, bevor sie schließlich zurück nach Balduinstein führt. 

Village speedster Netzbach

Als anerkanntes Projekt des EU-Förderprogramms LEADER in der Lahn-Taunus-Region wurde der „Dorfflitzer Netzbach“, ein elektrisches carsharing Fahrzeug, und eine Ladesäule teilfinanziert. Ziel ist es, die geringer werdende öffentliche Verkehrsanbindung und die zunehmend schlechter werdende Nahversorgung auf dem Land auszugleichen und die Anschaffung von individuellen Zusatzwagen zu vermeiden.
