What do Elvis Presley, Zoigl beer and Germany's deepest hole have in common? They are all associated with the district of Neustadt an der Waldnaab in the heart of the Upper Palatinate Forest. The city of Neustadt an der Waldnaab celebrated its 800th anniversary in 2017. In the last two decades, the focus of local industry and trade on glass and porcelain has changed very significantly. Today, almost all industries are established here. Twelve nature reserves are located in the district, including the well-known basalt cone ‘Hoher Parkstein’, which is of volcanic origin.
