Bournemouth and Poole are amongst the most popular tourist destinations on England’s south coast. They also comprise Dorset’s largest urban conurbation, a focus for its advanced manufacturing sector and growing cluster of digital and creative industries, boosted by Bournemouth’s two universities. Poole’s natural harbour makes it an important maritime centre. However, the area also faces challenges, with some neighbourhoods ranked amongst England’s most deprived. Dorset received £47.1m in EU structural funding for 2014-2020.
