This part of the South West is known for its outstanding natural beauty and habitats, including the wild Dorset heathlands and the World Heritage ‘Jurassic coast'. Tourism is a major employer. Farming remains central to the rural economy, but there is also a sizeable hi-tech manufacturing, engineering and aerospace sector and a growing digital and creative hub in Bournemouth and Poole. Challenges include balancing development with sustainable use and protection of the environment and regenerating rural areas.
