Peterborough is home to 197 000 inhabitants, 40% of whom are under the age of 30, and is a diverse and multicultural city, with around 20% of the population born abroad. While the public sector accounts for a relatively low 21.5% of local jobs, knowledge intensive business services, which have high skills requirements, represent almost 17% of the city’s jobs, several percentage points above the national average. With a total allocation of £72 million for the period 2014-2020, the priorities of the local enterprise partnership for Greater Cambridge and Greater Peterborough include low carbon, SME competitiveness and skills development.
