Surrounding the capital city Bucharest, Ilfov is Romania’s smallest county, in terms of geographical area. Together with the capital, Ilfov constitutes the most economically developed region of the country, with a GDP/capita expected to surpass the EU average in 2023. The service and the commercial sectors have grown considerably. Ilfov hosts Romania’s biggest airport (Otopeni) and is where most of the country’s major roads and railways converge.
