Ialomița County mirrors the course of the river of the same name, which runs from west to east, occupying a large part of the Bărăgan Plain and the northern Ialomița Basin. Farmland covers over 80% of the county. Once part of the transhumance route between the Carpathians and Dobrogea, people typically pass through Ialomița when travelling between Bucharest and the coast. The county also provides a crossing point over the Danube for road and rail traffic, at Fetești. The main tourist spot is the spa town of Amara, which is near the county capital Slobozia and 126 km from Bucharest. The resort is renowned for its mineral waters and curative sapropel mud.

Rehabilitation of the monument City of Floci

The European Union supports projects aimed at boosting local development by capitalizing on the cultural heritage of Ialomița county. For this purpose, non-refundable European funds of RON 8 million have been allocated for the rehabilitation and enhancement of the historical monument Orașul de Floci in Giurgeni commune.

Expansion and Equipment of Ambulatory Corp C of Urziceni Municipal Hospital

European funds in the amount of RON 7.5 million have been allocated for the expansion and equipment of the Outpatient Unit C of the Urziceni Municipal Hospital.

Reabilitation and modernisation of outpatients section of the Slobozia County Emergency Hospital

With a view to making health services more accessible and improving the population’s health, the EU has provided RON 7.5 million of funding for a project to renovate, modernise and equip the Slobozia County Emergency Hospital Outpatients Department.

Rehabilitation of Bolomey mansion in Cosâmbești

The European Union supports projects aimed at boosting local development by capitalizing on the cultural heritage of Ialomița county. For this purpose, non-refundable European funds of RON 18.3 million were allocated for the rehabilitation and enhancement of the historical and architectural monument Conacul Bolomey in Cosâmbești commune.

Rehabilitation and modernisation of the outpatient section of Țăndărei city Hospital

European funds to the amount of RON 7.5 million were allocated for the expansion, rehabilitation and equipment of the Integrated Outpatient Clinic of the Țăndărei City Hospital.

Restoration and preservation of the Wooden Church “St.Nicolae” in Slobozia

The European Union supports projects aimed at boosting local development by capitalizing on the cultural heritage of Ialomița county. For this purpose, non-refundable European funds of RON 1.7 million were allocated for the restoration and conservation of the wooden Church of St. Nicholas in Slobozia.

Modernisation of county roads in Ialomița

The EU has given RON 88.5 million towards the modernisation of almost 50 000 km of county roads, including the DJ 101, DJ 302 and DJ 402.
