In 2021, the population of Brăila County, which is situated in southeast Romania, was over 340 000. Brăila, the capital of Brăila County, is traditionally a trading city and a port on the Danube with industrial activities based on local resources (shipbuilding, paper and, furniture). The Balta Mică wildlife park, which has been designated as a protected wetland area of international interest, forms part of the European Natura 2000 European Network. Brăila is also distinguished by its cultural life and heritage sites.
