In 2021, the population of Brăila County, which is situated in southeast Romania, was over 340 000. Brăila, the capital of Brăila County, is traditionally a trading city and a port on the Danube with industrial activities based on local resources (shipbuilding, paper and, furniture). The Balta Mică wildlife park, which has been designated as a protected wetland area of international interest, forms part of the European Natura 2000 European Network. Brăila is also distinguished by its cultural life and heritage sites.

Restoration of the Church of the Annunciation in Brăila

EU funding of RON 18.2 million has been earmarked for the restoration of the Buna Vestire Church from Brăila. 

Revision of the management plan of protected natural areas: Balta Mică a Brăilei Natural Park

The European Union has also earmarked RON 4.8 million for revision of the wildlife conservation management plan for the Balta Mică area of Brăila.

Modern urban public transport in the city of Ianca

The EU funds the development of a high-quality public road passenger transport in the city of Ianca.

Physical, economic and social revitalization of disadvantaged communities in Ianca City, Brăila County

The EU finances with over 12.8 million lei the modernization of the city park and the rehabilitation of the House of Culture, among others.

Rehabilitation of the Maria Filotti theater in Brăila

The EU financed the rehabilitation of the Maria Filotti Theatre, a monument building in the center of Brăila.

Integrated development of the city of Ianca - Modernization of urban public spaces and modernization of green spaces

The EU financed the rehabilitation of the civic center and the development of some streets and sidewalks in the city of Ianca.

Suspension bridge over the Danube in the Brăila area

The EU has earmarked RON 1.7 billion for the construction of a bridge over the Danube in the Brăila area, one of the most important projects undertaken in Romania for the last three decades. It will be the largest suspension bridge in Romania and the third largest in Europe. The project also includes works on over 23 kilometres of road to improve national and cross-border traffic flows. 

The Regional Project for the development of water and wastewater infrastructure in Brăila County during 2014-2020

The project aims to expand and rehabilitate the water infrastructure for 66 localities in the county, for the benefit of over 186,000 people.

Modernization of Brăila Port

The project aims at the modernization and development of Brăila Port in order to provide optimal conditions for the naval transport of goods.

Rehabilitation of the Panait Istrati County Library in Brăila

The EU financed the restoration of the Panait Istrati county library in Brăila.
