Part of România's historical province of Moldova, the North-East region is the largest development region of the country in terms of population and area. The region covers six counties: Bacău, Botoșani, Iași, Neamț, Suceava and Vaslui. Although the region has registered a sustained economic growth in the past years (above national average), its contribution to the gross domestic product -GDP is still only about 10% (despite having 16% of the population).

Construction of the Regional Emergency Hospital Iași
The EU is contributing over 44.6 million euros to the construction of the Regional Emergency Hospital Iași, which, by 2026, is expected to be able to accommodate 47.500 patients and deal with over 100 000 emergencies.
Improving the capacity to respond to medical emergencies in the North-East Region
EU funding of 12.6 millions euros has been allocated to improve the capacity to respond to medical emergencies in the North-East Region.
Development and modernisation of the strategic road Iași-Suceava
The EU invests significantly developing the transport infrastructure of the North-East region with a view of facilitating access to national and European routes and increasing the degree of economic and social cohesion. For example, it contributes about 52 million euros to a project aiming to develop and modernise the strategic road Iași-Suceava.
Development and modernisation of the strategic road Botoșani-Iași
The EU invests significantly developing the transport infrastructure of the North-East region with a view of facilitating access to national and European routes and increasing the degree of economic and social cohesion. For example, it contributes about 53.3 million euros to a project aiming to develop and modernise the strategic road Botoșani-Iași.
Development and modernisation of the strategic road Neamț-Bacău, county roads 207D, 241, and 241A
The EU invests significantly developing the transport infrastructure of the North-East region with a view of facilitating access to national and European routes and increasing the degree of economic and social cohesion. For example, it contributes 30.4 million euros to a project aiming to develop and modernise the strategic road Neamț-Bacău, county roads 207D, 241, and 241A.
Improving access to emergency medical services for the population of Vaslui, Bacău, and Neamț
EU funding of EUR 11.8 millions has been allocated to improve access to emergency medical services for the population of Vaslui, Bacău, and Neamț.
Building kindergartens in the North-East region
The EU allocated over 16.9 million euros for building kindergartens in the North-East region aiming to increase participation in preschool and school education, especially for children at increased risk of early leaving the educational system.
Modernisation of the strategic road Neamț-Bacău (section Piatra Neamț-Mărgineni-Făurei-Horia-Ion Creangă-Icușești)

For example, it contributes 22.7 million euros to a project aiming to develop and modernise the strategic road Neamț-Bacău (section Piatra Neamț-Mărgineni-Făurei-Horia-Ion Creangă-Icușești).
Development and modernisation of the strategic country road Bârlad – Laza – Codăești
The EU invests significantly developing the transport infrastructure of the North-East region with a view of facilitating access to national and European routes and increasing the degree of economic and social cohesion. For example, it contributes 36.9 million euros to a project aiming to develop and modernise the strategic country road Bârlad – Laza – Codăești.
