Cluj County in north-west Romania is characterised by its ethnic and cultural diversity, its thriving economy and its great potential as a tourist destination. With an economy based on industry and services, Cluj is in second place behind the capital in terms of its contribution to the national and per-capita GDP. Cluj-Napoca, the county seat, is a major cultural and academic centre and the fourth largest city in Romania. In 2017, Turda, the second largest city in the county, took first place in Europe with its sustainable urban mobility plan.
