Terras de Trás-os-Montes (Lands of Trás-os-Montes), whose main urban centre is the city of Bragança, has been tapping into a new driving force in its economy – tourism. Despite large numbers of people having moved away, the region has been investing in recreational and food tourism. The mining and renewable energy industries also account for a substantial portion of the region’s economy and they are able to attract the attention of international companies (as is the case for lithium ore).
