The city, with a population of 60 000, is located in an agricultural and forestry region. While its main economic sector is agri-food processing, the construction, timber and furniture industries are also flourishing. Łomża is located along major transport routes, as well as close to tourist and recreational areas and nature parks, such as the Narew Valley Landscape Park. The city is located within the so-called ‘Green Lungs of Poland’.
