Słupsk is the third most populous city in Pomorskie province, with a population of around 89 000. Its favourable location means that it fulfils important administrative, transport, commercial and economic functions in the region. And thanks to its proximity to the sea, forests and coastal resorts, particularly Ustka, it is an attractive tourist destination. It is also a cultural centre where trans-regional festivals take place and the Museum of Central Pomerania is based in the Pomeranian Dukes’ Castle in Słupsk.

Examples of projects and initiatives supported by the EU

Revitalisation of the Podgrodzie area, the Old Town and the city centre of Słupsk

The city’s Podgrodzie, Stare Miasto and Śródmieście districts were revitalised with EU support (PLN 36 million). Development of the Bulwary nad Słupią has created a pleasant new riverbank promenade. Dom Sąsiedzki (a day-support centre) and a Centre for Social and Artistic Initiatives offering recreational and artistic activities have been opened to make it easier for people to be active and to integrate, including between the generations.

Social services for residents of regenerated areas

As part of a comprehensive revitalisation programme, social services have been put in place for residents of regenerated areas who are at risk of poverty or social exclusion. Initiatives include meal deliveries, telecare, personalised support for older people and people with disabilities, streetworking, and family psychological counselling. The EU provided 85% of the project funding (around PLN 6.6 million).

Ambulances for the emergency service station in Słupsk

In connection with activities to prevent, counteract and combat COVID-19 and other infectious diseases, three ambulances were purchased for the Słupsk ambulance station, together with equipment and personal protective equipment and disinfectants. EU funding amounted to PLN 1.5 million of the total PLN 1.8 million.

Public transport hub

Opposite Słupsk railway station, a transport hub is being created to improve the accessibility, efficiency and convenience of public transport. The EU has provided PLN 34 million for the project, which includes the construction of a new bus station, to be linked in the future by a tunnel to the train station, new free car parks and a network of pavements and cycle paths.

Słupsk green wedges

‘Słupsk green wedges’, a series of green spaces from the periphery to the city centre, clean the air, absorb noise, promote nature and attract residents. New plants have been planted on 15 hectares, flower meadows have been created, tree-lined streets have been created, new parks (West and East) and squares have been created, and areas for rest and recreation have been set out and equipped. The total cost was around PLN 13 million, with the EU providing around PLN 4.5 million.
