Economic growth in North Brabant was 3.6% in 2022; it is one of the most economically successful provinces in the Netherlands. The North Brabant region Brainport Eindhoven has the highest growth rate in the Netherlands, and it is one of the most innovative regions in the Netherlands and in the EU. It is characterised by its high-quality manufacturing industry (including ASML), international cooperation and booming exports of goods (20% of total Dutch exports) to – among other countries – Germany, Belgium, France, the US and also China. In 2022 the unemployment rate was 3.5%, which is lower than the average for the Netherlands as a whole. The province has 21 NATURA 2000 protected nature reserves and national parks, with relatively diverse natural assets.

Examples of projects and initiatives supported by the EU

Fieldlab Campione

This project makes maintenance for chemical and process firms totally predictable, significantly improving input productivity, availability and reliability at lower cost. That is the aim of Fieldlab Campione. It enables firms, educational establishments and knowledge institutions to experiment with state-of-the-art technologies, develop and demonstrate innovations in the areas of conditioning, monitoring and big data, and train staff. 

Roling Solar

Het doel van dit Belgisch-Nederlands project is om lokale fabrikanten en bouw- en constructiebedrijven technisch in staat te stellen om op kosteneffectieve wijze op grote schaal zonnecelmateriaal te integreren in de openbare infrastructuur. Hiermee moet duurzame energie dicht in de buurt van het verbruik worden opgewekt zonder dat extra grond hoeft te worden gebruikt, hetgeen CO2 emissies uitspaart.

Data Driven Farming

In dit nieuwe stalconcept worden varkens realtime gevolgd middels nauwkeurige eartag-sensoren, zorgt een varkenstoilet voor reductie van ammoniakuitstoot, voert een innovatief voersysteem de dieren aan de hand van de individuele behoefte en zorgt een klimaatsysteem voor de stimulatie van natuurlijk gedrag en goed gebruik van de functiegebieden. 

Battery Competence Center

Innovatieve batterijtechnologie is onmisbaar voor het realiseren en versnellen van de energietransitie. Doel is om versneld technische competenties te ontwikkelen en dmv een publiek-private samenwerking een toeleverketen op te bouwen, door het ontwikkelen van batterijpakketten en -systemen, het doen van testen en simulaties, alsmede productieactiviteiten. Dit zal als fundament fungeren om een breder batterij-ecosysteem te ontwikkelen.
