Telšiai County is the smallest of 10 Lithuanian counties in terms of area. It consists of Plungė, Telšiai, Rietavas and Mažeikiai municipalities and is located in the north-west of Lithuania near the border with Latvia. The region is rich in historical and natural sites. Textile, art and furniture production are in expansion, while the food processing and oil refining industries dominate the economy. Thanks to the Mažeikiai oil refinery, the county is taking on an important role in the country’s export sector. In 2020, the region’s GDP amounted to EUR 1.6 billion, and accounted for 3.3 % of the total national GDP.
