An Alpine region dominated by mountains, Trentino-Alto Adige is also a frontier and a gateway to the rest of Europe. With a per capita GDP well above the national average, it is one of the wealthiest EU regions. Tourism is the main source of income and the region’s farmers sell wine, fruit and animal products that are protected by European quality labels. Alcide De Gasperi, one of the founding fathers of the EU, was born in 1881. The house in which he was born (belonging to the EP Network of Political Houses and Foundations of Great Europeans) and the Giardino d’Europa, which is dedicated to him, are located in Pieve Tesino, near Trento.

Actions to support the Trentino Trilingue plan

Multilingualism is a fact of life in Trentino-Alto Adige, where Italian and German coexist with Ladin and other minority languages. EU funding has been earmarked for the training of teachers, instructors and supporting staff, and the provision of other resources needed for the implementation of the Trilingual Trentino plan.

New frontier technologies in the clean room

EU assistance has also helped to enhance cutting-edge nano manufacturing in Trentino, making it a byword for national excellence in this field. In this connection, a crucial role is played by the Clean Room project, which is intended to provide laboratory conditions more sterile than those of an operating theatre for researchers to develop radiation detectors from silicon wafers.

Consolidation works along Rio Schade and Rio Braies

EU funding is being provided for measures to secure buildings and infrastructure along the Rio Schade and Rio Braies in the municipality of Braies, including dam construction and bank repairs to prevent erosion and provide flood protection.

Brenner Base Tunnel

EU transport network funding has been channelled into excavation and ancillary works on the Brenner Base Tunnel, which is of central importance for the upgrading of the Munich-Verona line, in addition to previous co-funding for preparatory studies and exploratory activities.

Consolidation and strengthening of the services of the Job Mediation Centres

EU structural funding has been channelled into measures to improve the services offered by employment centres in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano under the 2014-2020 programme with the aim of providing better employment opportunities for the inactive and unemployed.
