Vercelli is one of Italy’s oldest provinces. With some 170 000 inhabitants, who are relatively older than the regional average, Vercelli is one of the most sparsely populated of the eight provinces of Piedmont. Its economic mainstay has always been the growing and processing of rice, of which it is Europe’s leading producer.
