Bács-Kiskun County is located in the southern part of the Danube–Tisza Interfluve; it is the largest county in Hungary. The county’s capital is Kecskemét. Its territory comprises three landscapes: The plain along the Danube is characterised by fertile alluvial soil, typically used to grow paprika and green peppers. The flatland between the rivers Danube and Tisza is the largest continual sandy area in Hungary, which is used particularly to grow grapes and other fruits. In the Bácska plain, the southern part is dominated by arable crops, while the north is more forested. Key sectors of the county’s industry are food processing, based on local agriculture, and also the processing, automotive and construction industries. Tourism is also significant in the county, mainly thanks to its national parks and thermal baths.
