Heves county is located in the north-eastern part of Hungary, in the region of Northern Hungary. Its capital is Eger. Industrial production in the county exceeds the national average; Hatvan, Gyöngyös, Eger, Visonta and the surrounding area are the county’s hubs of industrial production. Tourism is an extremely important part of the county’s economy. The hiking trails of the Mátra and Bükk mountains, the Kékestető mountain, the Baroque-style city centre of Eger and the resort area on the shores of Lake Tisza are renowned nationwide. Eger and its surroundings are one of the country’s historical wine-producing regions: the Bull’s Blood of Eger is perhaps the most famous product of the region.

Development of sewage disposal and treatment of Gyöngyös and its region

The wastewater of Gyöngyös and 4 separate parts of the town, along with Nagyréde, Gyöngyöshalász, Gyöngyössolymos and Gyöngyösoroszi, is treated at the wastewater treatment plant in Gyöngyös. As part of the wastewater drainage and treatment development for Gyöngyös and its surrounding area, the public utility wastewater drainage system was fully constructed and the wastewater treatment plant in Gyöngyös was modernised.

Development of employment cooperation in the Southern Heves region

The South Heves Employment Pact has been established. The aim of the cooperating companies and organisations is to help local people find work, and to flexibly meet the labour needs of local businesses. The project covers the villages and towns in the districts of Hatvan, Heves and Gyöngyös. The pact is “inclusive”: any organisation agreeing with its goals and able to contribute to achieving them may join.

Transport development in Heves county 1.

Poor conditions on the roads connecting smaller towns and villages often make local people’s lives difficult. As part of the Heves county transport improvement programme, several minor roads were refurbished in the county with EU funding of more than HUF 1 billion.

Tourism attractions development in the Eger Castle

The development of the tourist attractions of Eger Castle and the associated system of fortifications has been carried out in recent years with significant EU funding. Areas long since closed to visitors have been opened up, and new event spaces created. This has created an animated and diverse tourist centre, where everyone can find something to look at or a programme meeting their personal preferences.
