One of the most ancient dwelling places of the Hungarians, and the cradle of the Hungarian state. Geographically, this area is the most diverse in the country: hills, plains, large lakes and major rivers can all be found here. There are few landscapes in Hungary that offer more beauty than Fejér, stretching from the Danube, through the Mezőföld, the waterlands of Lake Velence and the surrounding hills to the Vértes and Bakony mountain ranges. Its two cities with county rights, Székesfehérvár and Dunaújváros, are important economic hubs for the country. The economy is largely determined by its developed industry, but Hungary’s best farmlands are also found here. Although there are relative differences in development between its northern and southern parts, it is still the most developed county after the capital Budapest.
