Split is the largest city in Dalmatia and the second largest city in Croatia. It is the university, cultural and administrative centre of Split-Dalmatia County, and as the second largest port in Croatia and the third largest passenger port in the Mediterranean, Split is also a significant transport hub. The city centre features Diocletian's Palace, one of the world’s best preserved ancient palaces, which is inscribed, together with the historical centre of Split, in the UNESCO World Heritage List. An important source of income for the city is tourism. According to some world ranking lists, the University of Split is ranked best in Croatia.
