Požega-Slavonia County is, in terms of area and population size, one of the smaller counties in Croatia. It borders on as many as five other counties. Although it lies in flat Slavonia, it has some hills and mountains. It consists of two parts: the Požega basin and the Pakrac-Lipik area. It is among the least developed counties in Croatia. This county’s wines are widely known, and fruit- and wine-growing have great potential for development. It has an abundance of natural resources and a rich cultural and historical heritage.

Examples of projects and initiatives supported by the EU

Terme Lipik

The 'Terme Lipik' project, worth almost EUR 10 million and co-financed by EU funds, will enhance the tourism potential of 'Vila Zinke - Vila Dobre Vode'. The works include the construction and fitting-out of a building with a multifunctional hall, a souvenir shop and a children's playground. The project will also revitalise the People's Baths and renovate Perivoj.

Panonika Regional Center of Competence

The creation of the Panonika Regional Skills Centre will improve the training of students in the agricultural sector by modernising existing educational programmes and developing a new occupational standard. This project, worth more than EUR 6.5 million, will also help increase the employability of students and enable cooperation with similar centres in the EU.

The world of Graševina

The EU is helping to finance the 'World of Graševina' project, which aims to improve the tourism offer and cultural heritage in the wine-making domain. Costs include the reconstruction, decoration and fitting-out of the Spahija cellar and the future Bećarac Museum, and the promotion of the destination. The project is also expected to lead to the creation of new jobs.

Energy renovation of Kajo Adžić elementary school building in Pleternica

EU funds co-financed the energy renovation of the Father Kajo Adžić Primary School premises in Pleternica. The works included thermal protection of the roof, refurbishment of the façade, replacement of the existing external carpentry room, and refurbishment of the ground floor of the building. This brought the entire building from energy class D into energy class A, which will significantly reduce heating costs.

Let's educate ourselves together 4

The project 'Let's Learn Together IV' has helped 70 schoolchildren with disabilities over four years to improve their education, socialisation and emotional situation. The project employed over 50 teaching assistants, with a total value of more than EUR 1 million.
