The province of Girona is located in the north of Catalonia, on the border with France. It is the smallest province in Catalonia and is home to some 793 500 people. The tourism, services and industrial sectors are economic mainstays in the province, with a particular emphasis on chemicals and meat products. It has a high volume of exports, and family businesses are very important in the province’s economy, both in terms of the sheer number of such businesses, and the amount of jobs they create.
