The Region of Epirus comprises the Regional Units of Ioannina, Preveza, Arta and Thesprotia. The primary sector is the mainstay of the local economy, but the region is also a tourist destination. Most of its terrain is mountainous, and its exceptionally rich and unspoilt natural scenery is studded with picturesque villages and stone bridges. The Regional Operational Programme for Epirus 2021-2027 has a total budget of EUR 426 065 900, 85% of which is funded by the EU.

Examples of projects and initiatives supported by the EU

Great Theater of Nikopolis

Restoration of the Roman theatre of Nicopolis. The current project includes works to reinforce and restore sections that had fallen into disrepair, as well as works to improve the appearance of the theatre to render it recognisable and suitable for the public to visit.

University General Hospital of Ioannina

Construction and supply of all the necessary medical, in-patient accommodation and electronic equipment/facilities to cover the needs of the new five-storey building that is to house the nursing units of the University General Hospital of Ioannina

Historic City Hall of Arta

Conservation and revived use of the Old Town Hall of Arta, which is a listed building aesthetic and functional upgrade of central points of the metropolitan area of the city of Arta.

New Port of Igoumenitsa

Construction of the New Port of Igoumenitsa
