The town of Grevena is built at 534 m above sea level, to the east of Northern Pindos, on the banks of River Grevenitis, a tributary of River Aliakmonas. The area is home to many archaeological discoveries and monuments. Characteristic features of the Regional Unit include its traditional villages, stone bridges, old churches, the ‘Valia-Kalda’ Pindos National Park, and the national ski resort of Vasilitsa. A great number of wild mushroom species grow in the area.
