The islands of Lolland and Falster, to the south of Zealand (Sjælland in Danish), are part of the Zealand Region. They consist of two municipalities: Lolland and Guldborgsund. The link between the German island of Fehmarn and Rødby on Lolland is one of the trans-European transport network’s flagship priorities. An 18 km underwater tunnel – the longest in the world – is scheduled for completion in 2029. Although the Fehmarn project is having an impact on many projects on Lolland and Falster, it is not the only activity in progress on the islands. The municipality of Guldborgsund is also playing host to the Europe Direct office until 2025.
