Famously the place where religious reformer Martin Luther pursued his life’s work, the district of Wittenberg lies in the east of Saxony-Anhalt, on the river Elbe. At the confluence point between the Berlin, Leipzig and Halle economies, its location makes for just the right business environment for local and medium-sized enterprises. The district also has a long tradition as an education hub. Today, students at the Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg feature prominently in the townscape of Lutherstadt Wittenberg. One of the town’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites is the Castle Church, the place where, legend has it, Luther nailed his 95 theses to the door.
