In the heart of Saxony-Anhalt, between the sprawling meadows of the Elbe and Mulde, is the independent town of Dessau-Roßlau. The former residence of the Princes of Anhalt is now closely tied to the Bauhaus art college, which greatly influenced social and societal intellectual history in the 20th century. The nearly 100-year-old Bauhaus building and Masters’ Houses are part of UNESCO’s World Heritage Site. The Garden Kingdom of Dessau-Wörlitz, which gave the town yet another spot on the UNESCO World Heritage list, is also a popular tourist destination.
