In 2016 the district of Neuwied celebrated the 200th year of its founding. Located in the north of Rhineland-Palatinate on the border with North Rhine-Westphalia, the district contains such attractions for visitors to the Rhine as Linz and Bad Hönningen. The Willy-Brandt-Forum in Unkel is dedicated to the former German Chancellor and Nobel Prize Winner for Peace: the town’s best-known citizen. Expansive natural areas such as the Westerwald – a forest with a wealth of hiking trails – contribute to tourism, a key driver of the local economy.

Examples of projects and initiatives supported by the EU

Amphibian conservation measures in the Westerwald planning area (planning/project coordination/implementation)

Ziel des im Jahr 2017 gestarteten Amphibienprojekts der Struktur- und Genehmigungsdirektion Nord ist die dauerhafte Erhaltung stabiler Amphibienbestände, insbesondere der stark gefährdeten Arten Gelbbauchunke und Kammmolch, in den Landkreisen Altenkirchen, Westerwald und Neuwied. Das Projekt wird aus dem Europäischen Landwirtschaftsfonds für die Entwicklung des ländlichen Raums teilfinanziert.

Jobfux Heinrich-Heine RS+/Alice Salomon School Neuwied

Das Jobfux-Projekt an der Heinrich-Heine-Realschule plus und der Alice Salomon Schule Neuwied wird aus Mitteln des Europäischen Sozialfonds Plus teilfinanziert. Das Projekt richtet sich an Schülerinnen und Schüler der Abgangs- und Vorabgangsklassen. Der Schwerpunk liegt auf der Beratung zum beruflichen Lebensweg, Unterstützung bei der Suche nach einem Praktikums- und Ausbildungsplatz sowie auf Bewerbertraining. 

Youth Scout City of Neuwied 2021/2022

Das Projekt „Jugendscout“ der Stadtverwaltung Neuwied wurde aus Mitteln des Europäischen Sozialfonds Plus teilfinanziert. Es zielt darauf ab, arbeitslosen und nichterwerbstätigen Jugendlichen und jungen Erwachsenen unter 25 einen Zugang zu angemessenen Aktivierungs-, Qualifizierungs- und Beschäftigungsangeboten zu bieten.
