The district of Unna, with its ten cities and municipalities, encompasses parts of Münsterland, the eastern region of Ruhr and northern Sauerland. Thanks to its good transport network, the district is a central logistics hub for the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The district is also home to the biotechnology, mechanical engineering, metal and electrical industries, as well as circular economy businesses and companies in the environmental technology and tourism sectors.

Knowledge creates success
By 2022, the ‘Knowledge equals success: developing the Westphalia university region with its many medium-sized companies’ project received EUR 1.2 million in EU funding. Working alongside the Unna district, the aim of the project is to strengthen the innovative capacity of small and medium-sized enterprises in the region and provide young skilled workers with career opportunities.
Um- und Neugestaltung des Stadtteils Unna-Königsborn Süd-Ost
Up to EUR 817 000 in EU funding was put towards the redevelopment and redesign of the Unna-South-East Königsborn neighbourhood. The aim is, among other things, to create additional green and open spaces, develop recreational areas and safeguard biological diversity.

zdi Netzwerk Perspektive Technik
The ‘Future of technology’ zdi networkis taking part in the ‘Future through innovation NRW’ initiative that supports young people in science and technology in North Rhine-Westphalia. The zdi network, co-financed by the EU to the tune of EUR 120 000, offers a wide range of opportunities in partnership with businesses and universities. It is supported by many regional partners, including the Unna district.
Naturerlebnis Lippeaue zwischen Lünen und Werne
The Unna District Nature Promotion Fund (NFG) received some EUR 216 000 in EU funding for infrastructure measures to help encourage environmentally friendly tourism in the Lippe area under the ‘Lippeaue nature experience between Lünen and Werne’ project. The focus is on cycling and hiking.
