The rural district of North Rhine-Westphalia lies next to Lower Saxony and Hessen. It features the Lippe Uplands to the north, Weser Uplands to the east, Warburg Börde to the south and Egge Hills and Teutoburg Forest to the west. The district also has a site of significant cultural heritage: the former Benedictine abbey of Corvey. It was listed as a UNESCO world heritage site in 2014, putting Höxter on the map. The region’s economy mainly consists of small and medium-sized enterprises, some of which are global leaders in their sector.
