The district of Gütersloh has one of the highest populations in Ostwestfalen-Lippe, and forecasts suggest that it will grow even further over the next few years. Outside Germany, Gütersloh is known as the home of two major international concerns, Bertelsmann and Miele.
Examples of projects and initiatives supported by the EU
ExperiMINT DiGiTal
The aim of the ExperiMINT DiGiTal project is to set up a student laboratory specialising in digital industrial processes and services. The aim is to get more young people at the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences site in Gütersloh interested in a career or course of study in the field of digitalisation. The EU has provided EUR 119 866 towards the project.
Conversion aerodrome Gütersloh
The EU has provided over EUR 300 000 for the conversion of Gütersloh Airfield since 2019. The approximately 365-hectare site, which has been vacant since 2020, is to be developed into a sustainable commercial and industrial location with an area of approximately 120 hectares. The remaining area is to be further developed as open space and protected to the best extent possible as a nature conservation area.
Dialogue with business
In connection with the conversion of Gütersloh airfield into a sustainable commercial and industrial site, the EU has provided EUR 50 000 for dialogue to be commenced with local and regional economic stake holders. The requirements for the future commercial and industrial area will be determined taking into account the input of small and medium-sized enterprises, and a location profile will subequently be produced.
Modernisation of the centre for natural sciences at the vocational training centre Wiedenbrück
The district of Gütersloh is receiving EUR 577 705 for the modernisation of the science centre at the Wiedenbrück vocational college centre. The project includes the structural and technical modernisation of science areas, covering digitalisation, equipment, methodology, didactics and modern forms of teaching.
