With approximately 600 000 inhabitants, Rhein-Sieg in North Rhine-Westphalia is one of the most populous districts in Germany. Much of it lies within the Bergisches Land, Rhineland, and Siebengebirge natural parks, and it is also a major educational hub, comprising three of Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University’s sites, in Hennef, Rheinbach, and Sankt Augustin. Rhöndorf, a village near Königswinter, is widely known as the chosen home of Konrad Adenauer, the first German Federal Chancellor and one of the founding fathers of the European Union. One popular tourist attraction is the Roman Canal Hiking Trail, which follows the course of the ancient Eifel Aqueduct.
