The district of Wesel straddles the Rhine in the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region, close to the border with the Netherlands. The 13 towns and municipalities making up the district of Wesel are part of the Lower Rhine region. They are also members of the ‘Euregio Rhein-Waal’, an association which since 1993 has been working to improve and intensify German-Dutch cross-border cooperation in the economy and society. The district’s economy, which is dominated by small and medium-sized firms, spans a wide range of sectors, primarily logistics, metal and steel processing, chemicals, building, food processing and the health business.
