The Rhein Kreis Neuss district lies on the west bank of the Lower Rhine. It includes eight towns and municipalities, with a total population of 450 000, and is a regional economic hub. Almost all the companies operating in Rhein Kreis Neuss are small or medium-sized. These SMEs provide 70% of jobs in the district and they have had a marked influence on its development, in social and cultural as well as economic terms. The district authorities therefore pay particular attention to the promotion of smaller businesses.
Examples of projects and initiatives supported by the EU
Zukunft-durch-Innovation (ZdI)-Netzwerk Rhein-Kreis Neuss
The aim of a project funded by the Rhine-Neuss District Economic Development Agency with up to EUR 120 000 in EU funding is to integrate SMEs into the work and financing of the Zukunft-durch-Innovation (ZdI – Future through Innovation) network in the Rhine District of Neuss. Cooperation between SMEs, skilled trade businesses and (higher) education institutions was fostered to improve the career and academic guidance of school students.
Kompetenzzentrum Rhein Kreis Neuss
The Rhine-Neuss District Economic Development Agency supports small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with a regional centre of excellence for responsible corporate governance, co-financed by the EU with up to EUR 212 636. The aim is to sensitise companies to the need for corporate governance that adds value in terms of ecological, social and economic action.
DIGI4YOUTH-
The Wirtschaftsförderungsgesellschaft Rhein-Kreis Neuss (Rhine-Neuss District Economic Development Agency) is responsible for managing the DIGI4YOUTH project. The aim of the project, which is funded by the EU with up to EUR 113 131, is to familiarise school and university students with the changes brought about by a digitalised economy and new digital professions in the fields of mathematics, computer science, natural and engineering sciences and technology at an early stage.
Lößhohlweg Butzheim
The species conservation project Lößhohlweg Butzheim aims to develop and promote the typical biocoenosis or coexistence of plants and, in particular, of animal species of the sunken lanes (Lößhohlwege) typical of the region. To this end, the habitat conditions in the Butzheim Lößhohlweg are to be partially restored and the biotope potential developed in the remaining areas.
