This district in Lower Saxony, which lies to the south of Oldenburg and Bremen, has eight towns and municipalities which are home to some 130 000 people. Wildeshausen, which is both district seat and a state-approved climatic health resort, is at the heart of the Wildeshauser Geest. With its 1 500 square kilometres, this is the largest nature park in Lower Saxony and most of it is in the district of Oldenburg. The district has a long-standing municipal partnership with the district of Nowomiejski in Poland.
