Located in the middle of Germany’s North Sea coastline, between the Elbe and Weser rivers, Cuxhaven is the northernmost district of Lower Saxony. Traditionally, seafaring has played a major role in the district. A few years ago, renewable energy joined fishing and port and logistics management as a third core sector. Tourism also contributes significantly to the economy, not least due to the popularity of Cuxhaven seaside resort. The district is one of the largest in the federal state, but it is one of the least densely populated.
