The district of Peine is made up of seven municipalities and lies between Hannover and Braunschweig. It is part of the densely-populated metropolitan region of Hannover-Braunschweig-Göttingen-Wolfsburg, a major business hub. Industrial companies are present in large numbers in the district, which is a major centre for northern Germany’s iron and steel industry. The district’s location on the ‘Lower Saxon Mill Road’ and the fact it encompasses eight extensive nature reserves also make it a popular tourist destination.
