Offenbach has around 143 000 inhabitants. This fast-growing city, not far from Frankfurt, used to be an important centre for leather goods — the German Leather Museum is located there. Today, the city is home to Germany’s National Meteorological Service, as well as being a hub for the financial and automotive sectors. Offenbach is also an important centre for the design industry, with over 3 000 businesses in the fields of architecture, typography, graphic design, film and animation. The city is also home to the traditional Kickers Offenbach football club and is known for its vibrant weekly market, its cinematic cultural events and its dynamic transformation — the new harbour district has received several prizes for its multi-purpose urban spaces.
